In First and Second Class we have been working on Capacity in maths this week. We spent the week estimating and measuring water. It’s not as easy as you might think!
We began by ‘guesstimating’ how many ‘spoonfuls’ of water it would take to fill things like an eggcup, a yogurt pot and a cup. Then we moved on to how many cupfuls of water it would take to fill a teapot, a jug and a saucepan! For each the activities we always found the first estimate the most challenging! We then moved on to measuring litres and millilitres. We found it interesting to see that a litre holds the same amount no matter what the shape of the container is!
